Structure

PREMIUM EDGE was developed together with Edgetech. It uses the triple insulation method with the Super Spacer spacer, strict quality control, the best insulating materials, as well as automated Lisec production lines for installing the spacer.

Advantages

Durability

The triple insulation method is the key to the enhanced durability. The PREMIUM EDGE manufacturing technology provides primary insulation in the form of acrylic glue, as well as main and external insulations.

The acrylic glue is applied first, thereby fixing the spacer to the glass panes. As a result, the spacer does not move during the manufacture, and the main and secondary insulations do not penetrate to the inside of the glass unit, improving the aesthetics of the insulation.

The main insulation and the leading Super Spacer T-Spacer Premium Plus spacer comprise the most important protection against damp permeating into the glass unit inside and against gas leakage.

These are applied automatically and continuously on the sides and in the corners and tightly connect the whole perimeter of a glass unit.

The external insulation stabilizes and reinforces the connection, and protects it against the direct exposure to weather conditions and mechanical factors.

The spacer is made of silicone foam which offers perfect flexibility in the temperature range of -40 to +120 °C. Consequently, the insulation is stable in all weather conditions, whether the glass unit serves as a part of a window or a facade.

Due to temperature variations, materials comprising a glass unit change their dimensions. The change can be described with the coefficient of linear expansion, and is different for each type of material. As a result, excessive expansion or compression of insulating materials may occur on the edge of a glass unit, where glass and spacer are connected. With time this may lead to the reduced adhesiveness of insulating materials for the glass and spacer, causing reduced tightness of a glass unit.

 In the case of glass units with spacers made of rigid materials this process has greater influence on the edge durability. Then a difference (∆l) in the change of spacer and glass pane dimensions can be observed.

On the other hand, the Super Spacer spacer adapts its shape to the changes in the glass panes’ dimensions – as a result ∆I=0.

The spacer properties make it possible to safely transfer lateral forces that expand and compress glass panes due to changes in temperature and pressure.

Edge aesthetics

In PREMIUM EDGE, Press-Glas uses the automatic method of fixing the spacer to a glass pane, which makes it possible to install it perfectly straight and parallel.
The Super Spacer spacer is resistant to changes in surface colour and to degradation caused by UV radiation; this has been successfully tested according to the EN 1279-6 standard.

Protection against cold and noise

PREMIUM EDGE is the best solution utilizing a spacer in terms of heat- and sound-insulation. The use of insulating layers of a suitable consistence and thickness, and the Super Spacer spacer are crucial. The spacer is made of porous silicone foam having a structure similar to the materials used to sound- and heatproof our houses. The molecular sieve for drying the air within the glass unit is included in the foam. Thus, the rattling effect, which is produced as a result of sieve vibration in a spacer, is absent, in contrast to spacers filled with the granular sieve.

Using glass units with PREMIUM EDGE makes it possible to improve window soundproofing by even 2 dB.

Comparative research by IFT Rosenheim has shown that the edge of a reference window with the Super Spacer spacer has the lowest Psi out of all the solutions tested to date. It allows us to reduce the Uw coefficient by even 0.2 W/m²K in comparison to solutions with an aluminium spacer.

Thanks to that, the possibility of steam precipitation and fungus on the connecting edge between the window profile and glass pane is reduced even more.

Application

PREMIUM EDGE can be used with any type of basic glass pane, and meets all the qualification requirements designed for window glass panes and facade glazing. Internal mounting installation in glass units with PREMIUM EDGE is prohibited, as Press-Glas wants to ensure that the best acoustic and thermal parameters of its products are maintained.

This will be possible thanks to the use of a tunnel furnace for strengthening purposes, operating together with fast glass cutting lines. Glass edge-polishing lines and machining centres will create new possibilities for furniture, household appliance and shower cubicle manufacturers. The project increases employment prospects in the production and administrative sectors, with a minimum of 50 new employees. The project will be completed by the first half of next year.

The investment in Radomsko is the most important part of the organisational changes announced by Press-Glas in 2009, with the main objective being to meet increasingly high requirements of clients and confirm its outmatching position on the market.

The possibilities available in the production plant in Radomsko, together with the technologies previously introduced in the factory in Tychy in the form of digital printing of glass by DIGITAL PRINT, the glass toughening process without local distortions PREMIUM TOUGHENED GLASS, own laminating line as well as the purchase of GLASTON, a state-of-the-art glass toughening furnace using traditional technology, will fulfil all previously announced plans of the company.

In the future, the production halls of the Radomsko factory will enable installing additional glass glazing lines, which will completely ensure the stability of the service and the certainty of a short delivery time for window manufacturers in periods of the highest production rates.

The investment’s mode of implementation will take into account minimising the negative impact on the environment, in compliance with the ISO 14001:2004 environmental management system.

The official presentation of the business development permit was delivered to Press-Glas by the Management Board of Łódź Special Economic Zone at the end of September.

 Due to using the same print method as used in computer printers,
DIGITAL PRINT is extremely fast and does not require any additional work except for processing the graphic file.

As it is not necessary to prepare printing screens, even unique patterns remain cost-effective.
Use of six basic colours guarantees a photo-quality print at 360 dpi resolution.
Thanks to software which allows dividing the overprint graphic into adjacent glass panes, large format photographs covering a glass façade surface can be obtained.

In February 1945, Churchill, Stalin and Roosevelt met at the Yalta conference and agreed that Poland would be put under Soviet control. When the Second World War ended, a Communist government was installed in Poland. Most Poles felt betrayed by their wartime allies, and those that returned to Poland often suffered a sad fate at the hands of the new regime. Few of the Polish veterans who remained in Britain after the War ever got the recognition they deserved: Polish soldiers were not even allowed to march alongside their allied troops in the London Victory parade of 1946. Battle for Britain demonstrates the strong socio-historical link between the UK and Poland. STORY Mr. Rogulski (JULIAN GLOVER) lives in Oxford in a house that time forgot, alone since his beloved wife’s death. One morning, he sets off for a walk to go and feed the pigeons in Oriel Square. The winner of putting contests during the golf academy was Marek Mirski, second place belongs to Lukasz Oblinski and the third to Marcin Susul.

Golf Academy for architects was a joined initiative of Press-Glas company and Rosa Private Golf Club.

Golf Club was visited by almost 100 people which was the maximum number of visitors we could invite. Unfortunately 7 days before the event we could not confirm the attendance of those people, who have sent the entry forms during those days. We hope we will have the chance to meet at Rosa golf club some other day.

The golf championship as well as the golf academy will definitely enter into the tradition of golf tournaments. Golf academy was a great chance for the participants to spend a great day and become familiar with our new product – Premium ESG glass.

Press-Glas company in May 2010 introduced a new type of glass: PREMIUM TOUGHENED GLASS free of the inevitable disadvantage of a toughened glass which is the distortion called ’roller waves’ formed during relocation of glass by the rolls used during hardening in the furnace.
In case of buildings with a considerable glass surface, the aesthetical aspect depends to a certain degree on the effect of distortion the image reflected in fasades.
The implementation of PREMIUM ESG glass allows to avoid the visible distortion of the reflected image and achieve better visual effect, which is a essential element of every project for architects as well as for investors.

How is PREMIUM TOUGHENED GLASS made?

Toughened glass traditionally had local distortions formed during relocation of glass by the rolls used during hardening in the furnace. PREMIUM TOUGHENED GLASS technology involves replacing the rolls with an air bag, on which the glass panel is placed at an angle, while the rolls only touch the panel along one side. The flatness of PREMIUM TOUGHENED GLASS glass is in fact the same as that of float annealed glass.

Advantages of PREMIUM TOUGHENED GLASS:

• No visible waviness due to the rolls or other local image distortions.
• Screen printing possible on the solar control coated glass, on the side without a coating.
• Heat treatment possible from thicknesses of 2.30 mm.

Applications of PREMIUM TOUGHENED GLASS:

PREMIUM TOUGHENED GLASS glass is designed, in particular, for façades where it is necessary to use tempered safety glass, in all the places where the surrounding architecture and greenery reflects in the glass surface. The absence of local distortions is visible in façades in city buildings. It is where they are seen most. In an image reflected in the toughened glass traditionally, straight lines wave, and form curves and reduce the aesthetic effect of the entire building.

PREMIUM TOUGHENED GLASS offering includes glass:

• in laps or combined in one or two chamber units,
• with holes or cut-outs,
• with bevelled, ground or polished sides,
• rectangular, polygonal and arch-shaped,
• enamelled,
• covered with screen printing.

The decision to invest in the glassworks along with other recent investments in leading technologies connected with flat glass processing, the purchase of a furnace for glass hardening without causing local undulations that lead to image distortions, a new ultra-fast line for blunting the sides of glass to shorten considerably hardened glass production times, and the start of layered laminated glass production, together strengthens the company’s technological advantage and its leading position in glass processing for the construction sector in Europe. Press-Glas S.A. secures its production activities by expanding its investments in flat glass production, while at the same time remaining a fully independent processing company working closely with all the basic-glass suppliers. This provides customers with reliable services and the satisfaction of all their requirements.

The facility is located in Ujazd, a town in central Poland, and is the largest and the newest facility of the Glas Trösch group. Late July 2009 saw the production of float glass being inaugurated successfully, and with a bath capacity of almost 1,000 tonnes a day the demand for float glass in Poland and in eastern, southern and northern Europe should be met. Besides flat glass, the facility will also manufacture coated glass. The newly-built glassworks are the most modern plant of its type throughout Europe.

The opening ceremony started with lunch and a visit to the facility. In the evening, the guests took part in an official gala with an artistic performance by Daria Puszankina as well as glass painting workshops.

Such features of the glazed units are possible because the Chromatech Ultra frame:

• has an upper mantle that is made of plastic only, which considerably increases its thermal insulating properties in comparison to a frame made entirely of stainless steel;
• is bent at the corners, which prevents moisture from penetrating into the unit and the heat-insulating gas from escaping from the unit;
• has a lower mantle that is made of a thin sheet of stainless steel, which provides a much higher resistance to distortion in comparison to plastic frames with lower mantle reinforced by metal foil.
